Quattro leaks around the elbow joint
Hi,
I had my one-month follow up at the sleep clinic on Thursday and the nurse has swapped me from a Resmed Ultra Mirage full face to a Resmed Quattro full face as she thinks that it is a better fit.
The mask is quite comfy but seems to leak a lot of air from where the elbow tube fits on to the mask itself.
Has any body else had this and dicovered a solution?
Thanks,
GV

Thanks for the replies guys.
I would agree with Nuneaton that it seems to be a design fault. The sleep clinic at Oxford swapped out the elbow joint with another as it was leaking air when she was fitting the mask, this new joint seemed to be a better fit but after only one night of use it is whistling away like an old kettle. If I apply a bit of pressure to it then it is OK but as soon as the pressure is removed then off it goes.
I'll try contacting ResMed about it but as the mask is supplied by the NHS then I can't really threaten them with Trading Standards. It's a shame as I find the mask to be more comfortable than the Ultra Mirage that I was using.
Still, I suppose that as this is only the second mask I've tried then I might be some way off from finding the most suitable one for me.

I've heard some super-glued it. Or perhaps one of those washers used by plumbers to tighten the tap to the pipes could work. CPAP users seem to have to put their McGyver hat on every now and then

Superglueing may fix the problem. Bear in mind that the fumes from super glue, take a while to dissipate. I worked with super glue for a while in a factory setting, ended up with allergic rynenitus (sp). Every time I come into contact with it, even for as little as a minute, my nose runs like a tape on full. The police use the fumes to fix finger prints on plastics, nasty stuff, cyanide based. Not the stuff to be breathing in via the confines of a mask!

Thanks Nuneaton, if my current experiment involving 2 rubber bands and a paper clip fails I'll give it a try.

Hi Nuneatonman37, looks like I need to pop down to B&Q and get meself some of your tape. Was fairly quiet until I decided to sleep on my side - you'd be amazed how quickly you can wake up when you find yourself lying on a twisted paperclip.

Hope not in the 'reverse-wind-pipe'

Hi Nuneatonman37,
I wound up using a small elastic band around the lip of the elbow. Works a treat at stopping the leaks but also stops the elbow from swivelling. Hasn't been a major problem so far except for one night last week when I must have turned over a bit quick and ripped the elbow out of the facepiece!
Will get myself some PTFE tape from B&Q tomorrow and give that a try.
Cheers,
GV
